By now, I'm sure you’ve heard that Kamala Harris is visiting Little Rock. She will be the keynote speaker for the Fisher Shackelford Dinner on April 26th.
The dinner is named after two Arkansas trailblazers. Jimmie Lou Fisher (1941–2022) was the state’s longest-serving Treasurer (over 22 years) and the first woman to be a major party’s nominee for Arkansas Governor (2002). She was the "gold standard" for Democratic constitutional officers in a state that used to be deep blue. (1) Lottie Shackelford (1941–) is a Little Rock icon—the first female mayor of the city (1987) and the longest-serving Vice Chair of the DNC. (2) She is the living bridge between Arkansas Democrats and the national establishment.

By bringing in the former Vice President, the party continues its pivot toward a non-traditional identity centered on the empowerment of women, while simultaneously dismissing the rural-appealing politics that once defined the state.
However, the irony is thick. Just last week, Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders was asked to leave The Croissanterie in Little Rock. (3) Despite being the sitting Governor, her presence reportedly "made staff uncomfortable." It seems "compassion for women" is selective in the capital, directly tied to party identity. While disrespecting our elected leaders is applauded on social media, the establishment is rolling out the red carpet for a candidate who was overwhelmingly rejected by 72 out of 75 Arkansas counties. (4)

The media’s attempt to paint Harris as a "Democrat Idol" ignores the reality of her political "success". In the 2020 Democratic Primaries, Harris was never a contender. She spent most of the race stuck in single digits, consistently polling at just 6–8%—trailing far behind Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren. (5)
She wasn't just losing; she was hemorrhaging support. In December 2019, she became one of the first major candidates to drop out of the race before a single vote was cast in Iowa or New Hampshire (6), citing a total lack of funding and interest. The people of her own party didn't want her then, so how did she end up here?

Her rise is the ultimate mystery. Joe Biden selected her as VP in 2020 not because of a popular mandate, but as a strategic "identity" showcase of specific demographics. Was her surge natural, or was she simply the "Silent Operator" running the White House while the establishment kept the curtain closed? If Joe wasn't fit to run again in 2024, many are asking if he was ever truly leading, or if Harris was the one pulling the levers from behind closed doors.
The real "Tread" is how she secured the 2024 nomination. She wasn't even elected to run.(6) When Joe Biden stepped out of the race, the Democratic establishment bypassed the voters entirely and handed her the nomination in what constituents see as a mock of the democratic name. It's an unconstitutional fallacy (7)—another example of the party's disrespect for the election process.
This visit is a clear strategic play. Arkansas Democrats are using the Little Rock "Stronghold" to project a strength they simply don't have in the other 74 counties. (8, 9) Donald Trump carried Arkansas with 64.2% of the vote to Harris’s 33.6%. (9) That is a nearly 30-point blowout, yet in Little Rock, she is treated like a returning hero.
The assumed sponsor, Power 92.3 Jamz, has not announced if Megan Thee Stallion will make an appearance or not. But AtT will keep you updated as the event draws near.
